Thanks to everyone that responded to my earlier post looking for suggestions for a video game console.
I wound up choosing a Playstation 2, and the game that tipped the balance was Ico. I’ve only spent a few minutes with it, but it looks great. I especially like that it has no on-screen status displays, messages, etc. whatsoever. A refreshing change.
I am a little disappointed with the lack of 16:9 games available on any console.
Also picked up a nice Logitech wireless controller from the local GameStop. Very nice little unit.
Don’t forget to try one of the many incarnations of Dance Dance Revolution. :)
The only real reason to buy a PS2: Katamari Damacy. So addictively fun.
I’ve had several people suggest that. It’s at the top of my “to buy” list!
Mmmh, there are lot of 16:9 games on PS2, two quite recent where i can remember to have spotted that option are “Resident Evil 4” and “Burnout Revenge”.
P.S. IMHO “Burnout Revenge” isn’t as fun as “Burnout 3” and if i can suggest an amazing but at the same time not well known RPG look for a copy of “Shadow Hearts” and an even better sequel “Shadow Hearts: Covenant”… =)
There’s quite a few 16:9 games out there. However at least on the PAL PS2 the video modulator is really not up to outputting at that aspect ratio and you get strobing and flickering at times.
Try Shadow of the Colossus the sequel to Ico, it’s out soonish.
