Yesterday, we got our new pickup! It is exactly what we wanted. We didn’t need one of these yuppie trucks that works year-round, goes faster than 55MPH, and has a fully intact body. No, what we need is something that we can use every other week or so to haul stuff off to the dump. Something that works most of the year. Something cheap.

I was only in India for a year but I would concur. But NOTHING rivals the sleek styling of an Ambassador. Did they make trucks too?
You have to look at this as an investment. Should be easy to hold your money together on this one, and the depreciation shouldn’t eat you alive like it might on a slightly newer truck.
That’s true, but taxes, title work, and registration cost a substantial percentage of the purchase price :-)

Indeed it does. But I don’t know how fast, since the speedometer is broken. :-)
The loose mystery wires aren’t really mysterious. It’s the wiring harness for trailer lights.
Looks like this truck has been a good companion to someone; I’m curious what the mileage on it is.
I wondered if the wires might be for something like that.
I know the mileage is well over 100,000 but don’t know exactly. The speedometer/odomoter doesn’t work anymore, and I don’t know how long it’s been broken.

I’m re-reading this post and realized that you start by saying that the truck is exactly what “we” wanted. I’m not sure that all of we wanted this kind of truck!
So, how much did it cost? Just for curious.
I paid $75 for it.

Nice to have a truck for 75 bucks. Real steal indeed, you can now rig it up with a $750 all-mode Amateur transceiver.
Maybe we in India can start importing these 75 buck gas guzzlers and power them with Debian GNU/Linux!
