Lucky Squares

Terah and Jacob were shopping in the cereal aisle the other day.
Jacob saw a box of Lucky Charms (not one of the more nutritive cereals). He pointed to it and really wanted it.
Terah pointed to a better choice, and asked him, “Shall we get that one instead?”
Jacob looked at the other cereal dubiously, unconvinced. Terah added, “It is SQUARES!” That was all it took — now Jacob wanted that cereal.
Terah told me this story, and added “this won’t work for long.” She’s right, of course.
I guess we’ll hope that they’ll come out with octagonal cereal one of these days.

Well, I’d consider anything without marshmallows to be better than Lucky Charms! Not that I don’t enjoy them on occasion… And, of course, highly processed breakfast cereals aren’t that great anyway. But, in this case, we got Quaker Oatmeal Squares.
I tend to define “good” cereal by my mom’s defination: as long as sugar (or a sugary product) isn’t among the first two ingredients, you’re good to go! It’s amazing how many cereals that little rule disqualifies!
Other “good” cereals: Kix, most raisin brans, Honey Bunches of Oats, and (Jacob’s favorite) homemade granola.

You know, I’m a young guy and don’t plan on settling down for a long time, but I really enjoy your posts about your family. Just nice to see all the little things that make having kids great. Keep posting!
