Once when I was having a very severe and painful time in my life a friend told me something I will always remember. I thought it was stupid until I thought about it for a bit.

It was after my ex had filed for divorce, and I called him for advice with legal papers (he was also a John, my Sunday school teacher and an attorney). My friend told me, “Jim, no matter what and even if it seems that no one in the world loves you, God still loves you. He always did and always will.” That bit of advice has been the best I have ever had in my life, still to this day.

I still cried a lot, and to this day have a built in sob that surfaces when I inhale deeply. But I do always remember, God loves me.

Dear John,

worries are a Good Thing. They make you think about things that you usually don’t think about. They make you change your thinking, at least for some time. Change, in turn, is a prerequisite for progression, which is absolutely what you need to get happiness. Maybe your worries come from serious illness, lost friends, maybe love, or conscience. Whatever they come from, they show you that you’re alive. Keep them for a while, but set them free to allow yourself progress. Where I come from, people say “Auf Regen folgt Sonnenschein”, “where there is rain, there will be sunshine”.
