Cute boys! I am happy to hear someone reporting pleasant experiences in Mexico instead of the typical media presentation we see every day. Having lived in Latin America for 5 years I can agree that the culture is very different, but the people are warm and friendly.

I truly did feel safe there. The US State Dept. has its typical overboard travel advisory (that they find something to warn about in every country I’ve ever checked says something) – but they do highlight the areas that are most dangerous. I think locals have a good idea of what’s safe (driving on the toll roads during the day, for instance). There are areas of New York and Chicago I wouldn’t visit after dark, either.

If you ever come to Mexico City, I’ll show you around if Gunnar can’t do it. I’ve been showing my city to several foreign visitors, and I think I’m getting quite good at it. ;-)

This is really inspiring. My wife and I live in Austin and have never been to Mexico. We both grew up in the US and got the normal dose of “Mexico is dangerous and scary” propaganda, so I think we’re both pretty reluctant to give a visit there much of a chance. I think reading your upcoming posts about going there with your whole family might give us a much needed reality-check (and maybe some courage).

Nice to hear from you! I feel a bit embarrassed that I overlooked sending you an email letting you know we’d be in the country. I hope we can make another trip sometime (Jacob has already started planning it, in fact) and maybe we’ll take you up on that.

We took a day trip to Guachimontones and spent one night in Guanajuato. With boys, we just move slower and there was a limit to how much we could take in.

I’m very happy you took the hance to come to Mexico, with the whole family. Yes, I live away from the Guadalajara region (~6hr by land) and had a couple of very busy weeks – besides work, I had my girlfriend’s family coming to visit from Argentina. So, shame I was not able to show you around as well in my city… But I’m looking forward to the rest of your story!
