Great read. Honestly though, it does have a lot of potential. I pretty much enjoy the feature called Hangouts (details here:http://gplustutorials.com/basics/google-plus-hangouts/ ).
It’s video chat that can give Skype a run for its money.

I’m using FF 5 now… yeah FF 3.5 won’t do everything exactly right, but my point is that it should fail more gracefully.

You may have problems in an old version of Firefox, but I use Opera, a browser that prides itself on its standards compliance, and the simplest things break in Google sites all the time. I actually had to fire up Firefox to edit my G+ privacy settings.

John: You may want to know about the Google Takeout project: https://www.google.com/takeout , it inlcudes the G+ stream.

IMHO the best part about the “not FB” angle is that Google is going to use this social graph to improve their own personalized search and ads algorithms, and not try to monetize it to external parties, which has huge implications for any present or future privacy controls.

Yeah, I have heard those promises too. They probably will deliver. But I don’t want to be enthusiastic about something over what it may do in the future, only over what it does now. And for now, it feels controlling and restrictive.

On the other hand, G+ doesn’t have Farmville. Millions may fall in love with it for that simple fact.

I do see their point. They are getting cheap beta testing out of this.

Actually it doesn’t matter how it was uploaded, all images up to 2048×2048 now simply don’t count against the Picasa quota anymore.

This even applies to previously uploaded albums, I had a few and after signing up for G+ it now says I’m using 0 MB of storage.

The API is “promised”. Not good, I know, but at least they are not planning on leaving this as it stands now.

The bit about not being able to push stuff to Google+ … I’ve seen mixed reactions to this. You and I would like that. It seems other people actually appreciate the fact that this can’t be done (yet?). They seem to think that this is allowing the people to play with Google+ and *only* with Google+, kicking its tires if you wish.

Right, but isn’t that confusing and counter-intuitive? I don’t see why they should care how it was uploaded, and moreover, I don’t see a clear indication of what counts against quota and what doesn’t in picasa web (though I am not terribly familiar with that service and may missing something)

Images and videos uploaded via G+ (up to a specific size/length) don’t use your Picasa quota.

Isn’t this just what “data liberation” (under “Account Settings”) does?
